Competitions
2025, the innovations and developments from the baking, confectionery and snack industry will be presented at the leading global trade fair. From 18 May to 22 May 2025, visitors to the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre in Hall 14, A13 will be able to see the tricks of the trade for themselves and attend the award ceremonies.
The iba UIBC Cup of Bakers
In 2025, the best bakers in six international teams will face the ultimate challenge: creating edible masterpieces under time pressure.
The participating countries in 2025 are: France, Germany, Iceland, Jordan, Netherlands, Sweden
The participants will be judged by an expert jury: chaired by Andreas Schmidt (member of our Executive Board and responsible for vocational training) Urs Röthlin (Switzerland), Jimmy Griffin (Ireland) and Josef Schrott (Austria)
The award ceremony will take place on Monday, 19 May at 5:30 p.m. in the iba.FORUM.
The iba UIBC Cup of Confectioners
In addition to The iba UIBC Cup of Bakers, The iba UIBC Cup of Confectioners will also take place again.
The participating countries in 2025 are: Albania, Germany, Korea, Mexico, Vietnam
The participants will be judged by an expert jury: chaired by Rene Klinkmüller (Germany), Antonio Carlos Henriques (Brazil), Remy Corbet Daniel Jean (Norway) and Marios Papadopoulos (Greece)
The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, 22 May at 4:00 p.m. in the iba.FORUM.
German championship of master bakers
The teams of two that come out on top in the preliminary rounds will compete against each other in the grand final at iba. You will soon be able to read about the theme of the competition here. This year's theme: ‘Passion’.
The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 20 May 2025, from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. in Hall 14 / Stand A21.
Prize of Honour of the German Bakers' Trade
This Prize is awarded to companies in the industry that deliver excellent quality.
The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 18th, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m at Hall 14 / Hall A21.
World Championship of Bread Sommeliers
In autumn 2023, the Akademie Deutsches Bäckerhandwerk Weinheim offered an international course to become a ‘Certified Bread Sommelier’ for the first time. Participants from various countries such as the USA, Norway, Brazil, Ireland, Aruba in the Caribbean and New Zealand successfully completed the course in September 2024.
Grand finale at iba 2025
Find out who the graduates are who have qualified for the final of the ‘World Championship of Bread Sommeliers’ and will now compete against each other at iba in May.
The final will take place on Wednesday, 21 May 2025 at 5:00 p.m. at the iba.forum.

The DBZ magazine awards the tradition prize together with an expert jury. It honours exhibitors who support and further develop the bakery trade through innovative developments and solutions in various categories.
