PRIZES, AWARDS AND COMPETITIONS AT iba 2023
In 2023, the innovations and developments from the baking, confectionery and snack industry were once again presented at the leading global trade fair. From October 22 to October 26, 2023, visitors were able to see the innovations for themselves at the Munich exhibition grounds and attend the award ceremonies. THE iba.UIBC.CUP OF CONFECTIONERS 2023
The iba.UIBC.CUP of Confectioners took place alongside The iba.UIBC.CUP of Bakers. Based on the theme "The Animal World", the participating teams of two from Taiwan, Germany, Korea and Norway created various mouth-watering pieces.
Gold went to Yeon Sunheum and Han Doyoung from South Korea. Second place went to Victoria Gravdal and Xiao juan Peng from Norway, while third place went to Min-Yu Teng and Peng-Yi Lin from Taiwan.
THE iba.UIBC.CUP OF BAKERS 2023
In 2023, the best bakers from twelve international teams once again took on the ultimate challenge: Creating edible masterpieces under time pressure. Under the motto "The Animal World", the teams of two created bread, small, party and Danish pastries as well as a showpiece in glass show bakeries. Judged by an expert jury.
These are the winners: Lin Yeqiang and Feng Yingjie from China
In second place were Hwang Seokyong and Han Seokwang from South Korea. Third place went to Nicole and Patrick Mittmann from Germany.
Lin Yeqiang and Feng Yingjie were also honored in the "Best Bread" and "Best Danish Pastry" categories.
Nicolo Motto and Matteo Manuini from Italy won in the "Best Small and Party Biscuits" category.
The prize for the best showpiece went to the team from Germany: Nicole and Patrick Mittmann.
iba TROPHY
The coveted iba Trophy was awarded for the eighth time at iba 2023. The DBZ magazine presented the traditional award together with a jury of experts. Exhibitors were honoured for their innovative developments and solutions in the categories of quality & productivity, energy & environment, digitalization and hygiene that support and advance the bakery trade.
The award-winning solutions are 2023:

- Hobart with integrated Top Dry technology
- Hein with the Universal Volt deck oven
iba AWARDS
With this award, Backtechnik Europe honored innovations for the industrial and line-oriented production of baked goods that were presented to the international industry for the first time at the trade fair. The award winners were selected by an independent and honorary jury of experts following an inspection visit to the trade fair.

- iScore bread slicing system from König Bäckereimaschinen
- M-VT Vertical Oven from Mecatherm
- Packaging System RS 60 from Packaging System RS 60
- E-strip burner CO2 neutral from WP Industrielle Backtechnik
DFV - BAKER OF THE YEAR: THE WINNERS
The prestigious Baker of the Year and Trainer of the Year awards are presented to outstanding personalities who stand out for their commitment, quality and creativity.
At iba 2023, Celestina Brandt was named Baker of the Year and Malzers Backstube was named Trainer of the Year.
UIBC WORLD BAKER & WORLD PASTRY CHEF
This year, a committee of the International Union of Bakers and Confectioners (UIBC) has named Mr. Wu Tzu Ching from Taiwan as World Baker 2023 and Ms. Nina Métayer from France as World Pastry Chef 2023. The prize has been awarded to particularly talented professionals from the industry since 2011. A number of requirements apply: Participants must actively and independently run a bakery and confectionery café, have completed training as a baker or confectioner and have successfully taken part in competitions.
FEDERAL AWARD OF HONOR OF THE GERMAN BAKERY TRADE
The Bundesehrenpreis des deutschen Bäckerhandwerks honors companies in the industry that deliver outstanding quality performance. In 2023, the prize was awarded to 47 craft bakeries from all over Germany.
GERMAN CHAMPIONSHIP OF MASTER BAKERS
The four teams of two that came out on top in the preliminary rounds competed against each other in the grand final at iba. Bread, cookies, yeast pastries and a showpiece were produced under the theme of "Community".
The winners were master bakers Lea Wagner and Johanna Lenhardt. The trophy was awarded to thunderous applause from the central association.
"BackStage young talent days" CHALLENGE: THE WINNERS
During the "BackStage young talent days" challenge, 16 trainees competed against each other in teams of two and put their baking skills to the test.
At iba 2023, the BackStage Award was presented to Johanna Bittner and Felix Welsch.
THE iba.START UP AWARD GOES TO
On October 25, 2023, the iba.START UP AWARD was presented to WECARRY.
Beforehand, the audience was able to vote for their favorite via the applause function on iba.UNIVERSE and in the hall on site.
WECARRY has launched the first deposit-based reusable system for packaging baked goods.
