The Gelbard family established a small baked goods production facility in 1950. For decades, the factory operated on a modest scale, but in 1985, the second generation joined the business, bringing fresh vision and strategic expertise. Shortly after, Gilro relocated to a state-of-the-art production facility, marking its first major leap toward becoming the industry leader it is today.
As demand for Gilro’s products grew both domestically and internationally, the company established its export sales department in 2006. That same year, Gilro launched its first edible paper production line, quickly gaining recognition for its high quality, excellent cake performance, and competitive pricing. In the following years, Gilro expanded production capacity and diversified into new product categories while staying at the forefront of production technology.
The company’s innovation continued with the introduction of edible ink for printers, followed by chocolate transfer sheets—leveraging similar technology to create custom designs on chocolate.
In 2020, Gilro acquired Magic Colours, a renowned brand specializing in gel colors, icing, colour powders, airbrush colours, and fondant. That same year, Gilro joined Green Lantern, one of Israel’s leading private equity firms, primarily focused on food manufacturing.
